July 11, 2022  By Fruit & Vegetable

Several pesticides have recently received minor use label expansion approval from Health Canada’s Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA). Josh Mosiondz, minor use co-ordinator with the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA), has provided a summary of information on the minor use label expansion, as well as a link to the relevant pesticide label.

  • CENTURION and SELECT herbicides for control or suppression of labelled weeds in celery, celeriac, and napa cabbage in Canada. Centurion and Select (Group 1 herbicides) were already labelled for management of weeds on a wide range of crops in Canada. These minor use proposals were submitted by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada’s Pest Management Centre (AAFC-PMC) as a result of minor use priorities established by growers and extension personnel.
  • Tough 600EC (Group 6) herbicide has been registered for an Emergency Use Request for the 2022 season in carrot in Canada, which will expire on Dec. 31, for post-emergence control of labelled broadleaf weeds. Ultra Blazer (Group 14) herbicide has received a User-Requested Minor Use Label Expansion for carrots to provide post-emergence suppression of redroot pigweed.
  • UP-Cyde insecticide for tarnished plant bug on field lettuce. UP-Cyde (Group 3) insecticide was already labelled for management of insects on a wide range of crops in Canada. This minor use proposal was submitted by the Ministère de l’Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l’Alimentation du Québec (MAPAQ) as a result of minor use priorities established by growers and extension personnel.
  • Fontelis fungicide for suppression of Sclerotinia stem rot (Sclerotinia sclerotiorum) on Crop Group 1B (root vegetables). Fontelis (Group 7 fungicide) was already labelled for management of diseases on a wide range of crops in Canada. This minor use proposal was submitted by MAPAQ as a result of minor use priorities established by growers and extension personnel.
  • ELEVATE fungicide for control of Botrytis leaf blight (Botrytis squamosa) in onion (green and dry bulb) in Canada. Elevate (Group 17 fungicide) was already labelled for management of diseases on a wide range of crops in Canada. This minor use proposal was submitted by AAFC-PMC as a joint project with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) IR-4 project as a result of minor use priorities established by growers and extension personnel.
